The last and seventh round of the first-class President’s Trophy starts on Monday, October 19. Mohammad Rizwan will be the captain of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).
Rizwan’s hasn’t played in the tournament since it started last month because, according to a PCB source, he “failed to appear in the pre-season fitness test.” This will be his first game in the tournament. But it turned out that he wasn’t allowed to play in the tournament because the country’s cybercrime agency (NCCIA) was still looking into him.
Cricinfo also knows that Rizwan will play for Peshawar in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy next month.
Since he got back to Pakistan after the Lord’s Test in August, the wicketkeeper-batsman has been called in twice by the NCCIA as part of an investigation into online betting and gambling in Pakistan cricket. After his first meeting with the NCCIA in Lahore, Rizwan went to the Lahore High Court and fought the agency, arguing that the investigation was not what it seemed to be and asking for the return of his cell phone. The court turned down his request.
Before his next meeting with the NCCIA in Lahore at the beginning of this month, Rizwan wrote to the organization to ask why they were investigating him.
Along with Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq is also being questioned by the NCCIA, and they still have his cell phone. Rizwan chose to go to court and challenge the agency over its actions, but Imam, who was also turned down to play in the President’s Trophy, hasn’t said anything about it. Up until this story was written, his participation had not been approved by the PCB.

SNGPL is on the verge of being relegated, and Rizwan’s return is expected to give them a much-needed boost. The teams that won last year’s competition are at the bottom of the eight-team table, having played six games and drawn five and lost one. KRL, which is in third place, will play them in the last round at the Shoaib Akhtar Stadium in Rawalpindi.
