Abhishek Nayar, a former Assistant Coach and Indian international cricketer, has specified his preferable modifications to India’s playing XI for the final match. In his opinion, the hosts are confronted with a complex selection conundrum. Therefore, Nayar has proposed specific modifications to both the bowling and batting units.
The India versus West Indies T20I series is currently tied at 2-2 as the decider is set to take place in Bengaluru on Saturday, October 17. The hosts will need to make critical selection decisions in order to secure the contest, as the series is evenly balanced.
Kuldeep, who is 31 years old, last played in a T20I during the T20 World Cup in February, where he faced Pakistan. The spinner participated in the initial two matches of the current series; however, she was unavailable for the subsequent two matches. On September 27, 2026, Naman Dhir, 26, made his ODI debut against the West Indies.
Nayar’s principal recommendation includes the substitution of Naman Dhir with Kuldeep Yadav, a left-arm wrist-spinner.
Additionally, the former assistant coach recommended that Nitish Kumar Reddy and Axar Patel be promoted to the top of the order in the event that Kuldeep is included. Axar Patel has exhibited proficiency in the floater role when deployed in that capacity for India, as per Nayar’s evaluation. The bowling modifications that Nayar favors for the decider would be accompanied by these batting adjustments.
Nayar raised concerns about the potential compromise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s natural position when considering the inclusion of the batter. Sooryavanshi should bat at his greatest position, which is opening, if he participates, according to Nayar. The former assistant coach posited that the number three batter should also play in his strongest position if Sooryavanshi opens the game. Nayar ultimately prioritized the preservation of positional integrity in the batting order, despite the temptation to include Sooryavanshi in Bengaluru’s favorable batting conditions.

Nayar’s inclination is to alter the bowling attack rather than the batting lineup for the decider. He recommended that India field four attacking bowlers, provided that Arshdeep Singh is available. This strategy would enable the hosts to preserve their batting structure while simultaneously enhancing their bowling capabilities for the series’ final match.
