Ashok Sharma Replaces Injured Yudhvir Singh in India A Squad

New Delhi: Fast bowler Ashok Sharma replaces the injured Iqbal Abdulla in the India A squad for the remaining matches of the ongoing one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka. The youngster pacer has been named as a replacement for injured Yudhvir Singh. While Yudhvir was included in the squad, he didn’t get to play any of the first three games for India A.

It is yet another milestone in Ashok’s meteoric rise in the game of cricket. One of the most discussed fast bowlers in Indian cricket, known for his express pace, the right-arm quick created a buzz during IPL 2026 when he bowled one of the fastest balls of the season at a speed of 154.2 km/h. The pacer managed to pick 6 wickets from just six matches for Gujarat Titans but earned acclaim mainly due to his sheer ability to clock amazing speeds.The World-Cup-winning U19 captain is recognized as one of India’s brightest prospects but only picked up six wickets in his maiden IPL appearance while playing for SRH in IPL 2023.

Ashok’s selection in the India A side came on a day when his shift to Gujarat for the 2026-27 domestic season was made official. He will now play for Gujarat in the domestic set-up after getting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Rajasthan Cricket Association.

Ashok made headlines in IPL, but before that he had scored in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 In his very first season in the tournament, he was one of the leading wicket-takers with 22 wickets from 10 matches. Ashok has already proven he can step up at the domestic level in first-class and List A cricket. Playing for Rajasthan, he took 14 wickets in four first-class matches and also claimed 13 wickets in seven List A matches. He had also played in India A warm-up matches against the USA and Namibia earlier this year, leading into a T20 World Cup.

India A have had a tough campaign in the Dambulla tri-series, losing two of their first three matches culminating in a tense Super Over defeat by Sri Lanka. Next up for the team is Afghanistan A in their last match of the league stage before the tournament ends with the final on Sunday. Ashok Sharma will be excited to get a good start and enhance his case for brim.
