Sikandar Raza, the captain of Zimbabwe, has expressed his personal elation at the possibility of participating in a home World Cup as his international career nears its conclusion. Raza contemplated the significance of the tournament in his current playing career when discussing the opportunity.
The tournament will comprise 57 contests across 12 venues and will continue until November 21, 2027. Zimbabwe will host group games at Harare Sports Club and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, while the Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls will host high-profile fixtures, including Zimbabwe versus India on October 24. This represents the World Cup’s return to Africa after a twenty-four-year absence.
Zimbabwe is anticipating the inauguration of the new Victoria Falls venue in the near future, where it will conduct matches. Raza observed that the location will enable visiting teams and supporters to explore the region in addition to cricket. Zimbabwe’s group-stage match against India is scheduled to occur on October 24.
Zimbabwe is part of Group A, which includes India, Pakistan, Australia, and Afghanistan. The final place will be determined through a qualifying tournament prior to the World Cup.
Raza does not anticipate that Zimbabwe will possess a substantial home advantage, despite the fact that they are playing on their own ground.
He observed that the ICC regulations rigorously standardize the pitch and venue conditions, thereby granting host nations minimal control over the playing surface. Zimbabwe is scheduled to play its matches at the newly constructed venue at Victoria Falls, Bulawayo, and Harare during the tournament.
