According to Bangladeshi wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan, when the ODI tri-series begins in Abu Dhabi on October 17, 2026, Afghanistan will rely heavily on their spin attack.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe will play each other once in the tri-series before the top two teams meet in the final on October 23.
Given the discrepancy in Afghanistan’s approach across forms, this evaluation is important. Afghanistan utilized a pace-heavy assault in the one-off Test against Bangladesh, which was place at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from October 9 to 13, 2026. Mohammad Saleem, Yamin Ahmadzai, and Ismat Alam split the new-ball duties, while Ziaur Rahman and Qais Ahmad were the two specialist spinners.
However, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, AM Ghazanfar, and Nangyali Khan are among Afghanistan’s 15 ODI players, indicating a far more strong spin contingent. Nurul’s reaction was modest, even acknowledging the UAE’s harsh heat circumstances.
Why does Nurul Hasan believe Aliss Al Islam is important to Bangladesh?
Nurul Hasan believes Aliss Al Islam, a mystery spinner, has the potential to be a significant influence for Bangladesh in the tri-series. According to Nurul, Aliss’ addition provides Bangladesh with another tool to counter spin-friendly surfaces because mystery spinners may be difficult to forecast, particularly in foreign settings where batters are less familiar to local variances.
What benefits does the tri-series have for Bangladesh’s overall ODI goals?
Bangladesh is looking forward to the two major events that will follow the tri-series. The team sees the Abu Dhabi competition as a valuable opportunity to improve its form and confidence ahead of the 2019 Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.
